A Childhood Marked by Tragedy
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, leaving a young AREIL and her family homeless and disconnected. The trauma of losing her home and the subsequent displacement to Jackson, Mississippi, was a turning point in her life. Struggling with depression, AREIL found herself in and out of group homes and juvenile detention centers, further isolating her from her family and her sense of self.
Discovering Music: A Path to Healing
Despite these challenges, AREIL found solace and purpose in music. In 2016, she began her music career, feeling as though she had been destined for this path her entire life. Music became her outlet, her passion, and her way to reconnect with herself and her aspirations.
A Leap of Faith: Moving to California
At 18, AREIL made a bold decision to leave everything behind—her apartment, car, family, and old life—to move to California with just $500 in her pocket. The move was driven by a desire to change her surroundings and explore the world to find herself. However, her journey in California was far from easy. She faced homelessness and eviction but never lost sight of her dream.

By 2024, AREIL had transformed into The MERMAID, a successful runway model, artist, songwriter, and model. Her experiences shaped her into a resilient and authentic individual, capable of truly being herself both inside and out.
